Plastic Surgeons Association Questions Child Gender Transition Surgery

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has kicked off a shake-up in the medical landscape by becoming the first prominent association of healthcare professionals to drop the politically correct facade surrounding childhood gender transitions. This isn’t just another organization toeing the party line established by the big shots in the American medical establishment; this is a wake-up call for the ideologically blinded medical professionals and activist groups that have clamored for kids to undergo irreversible surgeries.

A recent report from the Manhattan Institute revealed that ASPS has expressed serious doubts about the so-called effectiveness of chest and genital surgical interventions for children experiencing gender dysphoria. The organization’s conclusion about the “low quality/low certainty” of existing evidence is a much-needed dose of reality. After all, when a group representing about 90% of plastic surgeons in the U.S. and Canada starts waving a red flag, it’s time to pay attention.

For years, the narrative pushed by a choir of activist doctors and special interest groups has been that transitioning minors is safe, effective, and—most importantly—a settled science. While these champions of children’s rights may have tried to silence dissenting voices with a supposed mountain of evidence, the truth is finally surfacing. An increasing body of contradicting evidence highlights the dangers and pitfalls of rushing children into irreversible medical procedures.

Recent admissions from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the gatekeepers of transition care, have further cracked the facade of infallibility. It turns out that many interventions previously touted as reversible are, in fact, long-term commitments. Talk about a plot twist. This manipulation of scientific data in service of an agenda doesn’t just raise eyebrows; it raises alarms about the integrity of medical practices.

The testimony of medical professionals like Dr. Richard Bosshardt shines a light on the complexity and risks inherent in transsexual surgery. With the specter of infertility and sexual dysfunction looming over patients who undergo these procedures, the ASPS’s decision not to align with the existing consensus is significant. While they may not outright condemn gender transitions for children, their unwillingness to endorse the widespread adoption of these interventions is a substantial rebuke of the supposedly progressive medical community.

As the United States continues to grapple with the fallout of this contentious issue, many Western European countries are already pulling back on their previously unfettered access to these procedures for minors. This trend might signal a broader reevaluation of what should truly be considered acceptable medical practice. The ASPS is charting a new course, and it remains to be seen how many of their colleagues will join in rejecting the whims of the ideologues pushing for radical medical interventions on unsuspecting children.
