Los Angeles police were forced to babysit failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris after President Trump rightfully ended her taxpayer-funded Secret Service protection. Harris lost the election in a landslide, yet liberal LA Mayor Karen Bass still thought she deserved special treatment. The city pulled elite Metro Division officers away from fighting real crime to stand guard outside Harris’s fancy Brentwood mansion.
This is exactly the kind of backwards thinking that has destroyed Democrat-run cities across America. While regular citizens face rising crime and danger on LA streets, precious police resources went to protect a multi-millionaire politician who can easily pay for her own security. Harris made millions from book deals and speaking fees, but somehow taxpayers had to foot the bill for her protection.
The LAPD officers themselves were furious about this ridiculous assignment. Sources inside the department said cops were angry about being pulled from actual crime-fighting work in the San Fernando Valley. These are the same elite officers who should be going after gang members and drug dealers, not playing bodyguard for a washed-up politician.
Even the Los Angeles Police Protective League slammed this waste of resources. The police union called it “nuts” to pull officers from protecting everyday Americans just to guard someone who bombed as a presidential candidate. They pointed out the obvious truth that Harris can afford to hire her own private security team.
President Trump was absolutely right to cut off Harris’s extended Secret Service protection. Vice presidents normally only get six months of protection after leaving office, but Biden gave her special treatment with an executive order. Trump properly ended this preferential deal and made Harris face reality like every other former VP.
The whole mess shows how out of touch liberal politicians really are with working families. While crime explodes in LA neighborhoods, Mayor Bass thought protecting Harris was more important than public safety. This is the same backwards priority system that has turned once-great cities into disaster zones.
Fortunately, the LAPD finally came to its senses on Saturday and ended this embarrassing protection detail. The criticism was so intense that even the liberal police leadership had to back down. Harris will now have to do what she should have done from the start and pay for her own security.
This entire episode proves that Democrats care more about their own comfort than the safety of regular Americans. Harris got special treatment while crime victims in LA got fewer cops on the street. That’s the Democrat way of putting politics before people every single time.
