Poll Shows Young Voters Favor Trump Over Biden on Economy, Border Security

In a recent poll by the Democratic-aligned research group Blueprint, it was revealed that young registered voters are placing their trust in former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden on issues like reducing prices and securing the border, important matters for the upcoming 2024 general election. Despite generally favoring Biden on most other topics, the poll showed that 52% of young voters trust Trump more when it comes to lowering prices, and 53% trust Trump more to secure the border.

The poll found that the top concerns for young voters are the economy and inflation, with 73% and 70% of them prioritizing these issues, respectively. It also showed that only 13% of voters believe Biden is most focused on lowering prices. This data has raised concerns among the pollsters at Blueprint, with lead pollster Evan Roth Smith expressing worry over the fact that young voters are more aligned with Trump on economic policies.

The polling also indicated that LGBT issues and student loans were among the lowest-priority issues for young voters, chosen only 38% of the time. On the other hand, inflation, healthcare, and jobs and the economy were the most prioritized issues, chosen 70% or more of the time.

Experts analyzing the polling results are suggesting that Democrats need to do more to inform young voters about Biden’s efforts to address inflation and improve the economy in order to increase awareness among this demographic. Ashley Aylward, a senior researcher at the Democratic polling firm HIT Strategies, highlighted the consistent concerns of young voters about the economy and cost of living, expressing that they are increasingly frustrated about not being able to reach the same economic milestones as previous generations.

It is worth noting that young voters played a significant role in delivering Biden his first White House victory in 2020. The AP VoteCast survey of the electorate found that Biden won 61% of voters under 30 and 55% between 30 and 44.
