A well-known Republican pollster named Frank Luntz has mentioned that former President Donald Trump might earn around 1/3 of the black vote if he runs against President Biden once more in November. This is a big change because black voters usually support Democrats by a lot. The Biden Campaign is taking notice of some not-so-great polling data showing that black voters may not be as on board with them for the 2024 election as they were in 2020.

Back in 2020, a poll said that 87% of black voters picked Joe Biden. But now, recent polls from April put Biden ahead of Trump by 71% to 13%, showing a big drop from the support he had before. Also, the interest black voters have in the 2024 election appears to be lower, with only 59% saying they care a lot, down from 74% who said so at the same time in the last election.
Luntz said on CNN that young black men seem to relate to Trump and what he stands for, feeling like they’re facing the same struggles he is. Biden may be losing support from these voters because they see Trump as someone fighting against oppression, something they feel too. Luntz even thinks that up to one-third of black male voters under 40 might choose Trump in the fall.
The Biden Campaign is not ignoring these signs. They are starting campaign events focused on getting more black voters to turn out. A big part of their plan is to paint Trump and his supporters as bad people who don’t want equality for all. Biden said that Trump and his followers are stopping people from being free and making choices, but he believes that everyone can do well in America.
