Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been vocal in his criticism of former President Donald Trump, and his latest comments on Fox News are no different. On Sunday, Pompeo accused Trump of not being a “true Conservative leader” and suggested he would be a better president than Trump if he ran and won in the 2024 cycle.
The gloves are off.

Pompeo told Fox’s Shannon Bream that the US is in a precarious position with $31 trillion in debt, and that it needs a true conservative leader to get the country back on track. He went on to say that the Trump administration was not successful in doing this, as evidenced by the fact that the US is now $6 trillion more in debt than it was when Trump took office.
We were told we’d get tired of winning. But I’m tired of losing.
And so are most Republicans.

This is not the first time Pompeo has taken shots at Trump. Following weak Republican performance in the 2022 midterms, Pompeo attributed any Republican losses to Trump, saying on Twitter, “We were told we’d get tired of winning. But I’m tired of losing. And so are most Republicans.”
It is clear that Mike Pompeo is not a fan of former President Donald Trump, and his latest comments on Fox News only further prove this point. While it is true that the US is now $6 trillion more in debt than it was when Trump took office, it is also true that the Trump administration was able to achieve some impressive economic successes. The US economy grew at its fastest pace since 1984 during the last three months of 2020, and unemployment rates were at their lowest levels since 1969.
It is understandable that Mike Pompeo would be disappointed with the Republican performance in the 2022 midterms, but it is unfair to blame President Trump for all of the losses. The fact of the matter is that President Trump was able to achieve some impressive economic successes during his time in office, and it is wrong to suggest that he was not a “true Conservative leader”. It remains to be seen if Mike Pompeo will be able to do any better if he runs for president in 2024, but one thing is certain: President Trump was a successful conservative leader who was able to make great strides in improving the US economy.
