On January 20, 2026, radical anti-ICE protesters turned the historic area around the Alamo into another stage for their predictable grievance parade, whining about the anniversary of President Trump’s second inauguration instead of celebrating American strength. Their chants and placards—designed for viral clips, not thoughtful debate—did nothing to honor the sacrifice the Alamo represents, and everything to highlight how unserious these activists are about real policy.
What the media framed as a “Free America Walkout” was really a coordinated, theatrical effort by far-left groups to disrupt daily life and score headlines, with organizers urging nationwide walkouts and staged protests. These events were organized by established activist networks and pushed a predictable anti-law-enforcement message that ignores the real consequences of uncontrolled borders and lawlessness.
San Antonio’s downtown saw the familiar mix of slogans and performative outrage as marchers gathered in parks and made their way toward Alamo Plaza, inconveniencing tourists and local businesses while pretending to speak for “the people.” The scene was less a spontaneous uprising of concerned citizens and more a plug-and-play demonstration that has been rolled out in city after city.
Texans know from recent history that loud protests often require a response to keep order; the state has previously stationed Guard troops and law enforcement around the Alamo during mass demonstrations to protect the site and public safety. That reality should remind Americans that public order matters more than performative outrage, and that elected leaders have a duty to safeguard historic sites and everyday citizens from self-styled agitators.
Meanwhile, the protesters’ attacks on ICE and federal immigration enforcement ignore the fundamental duty of any nation to secure its borders and enforce its laws. Law enforcement officers who carry out those duties deserve respect, not chants from outside the Alamo, and the country would be better served by focusing on policy solutions rather than virtue-signaling stunts.
Patriotic Americans should see this for what it is: a spectacle from the same activists who have tried time and again to delegitimize lawful authority and disrupt the lives of working people. On the anniversary of a presidential inauguration that returned common-sense priorities to the top of the agenda, citizens should stand with law and order, honor history, and reject the hollow theatrics of the professional protest industry.
