Reagan Biopic Revives Hope Trump Could Restore American Strength

Over the recent holiday weekend, a dedicated viewer plopped down $5.99 for the “Reagan” biopic on Amazon. That investment apparently turned out to be well worth it as the film traversed decades of American history, shining a spotlight on a rather significant moment: the release of American hostages in Iran, which occurred almost immediately after Ronald Reagan took the oath of office on January 20, 1981. This event starkly contrasts the failed rescue operation led by the Carter administration, which left eight American crewmen dead and a nation gripped by embarrassment.

The comparison between the disastrous Carter years and the current Biden administration isn’t just a nostalgic indulgence. President Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan has drawn glaring parallels to Carter’s blunder. Where Carter’s plan crumbled due to “equipment failure,” leaving no room for heroics and plenty of regret, Biden’s exit was riddled with confusion and chaos that put countless lives at risk. As history has shown, bad leadership has real consequences, and those in charge often find ways to duck responsibility.

The aspirations of President-elect Donald Trump to reclaim that spirit of decisive action are evident. On his platform, Truth Social, Trump declared that if hostages remain in the Middle East by the time he assumes office for a second term on January 20, 2025, there would be repercussions that would make a history book-worthy impression. His words, filled with the same vigor that characterized Reagan’s warnings to terrorists, indicate that he intends to be a president who acts rather than sits back and watches as others flail in the face of crisis.

The backdrop to Trump’s strong statements is the ongoing situation with Hamas, who have held innocent hostages since their heinous attack on October 7, 2023. The numbers remain varied, but the consistent accounts of significant hostages still being held underscores the urgency of action. The tragic story of 21-year-old Omer Neutra, confirmed dead yet being denied a dignified return, adds a painful layer to the family struggles faced by those missing their loved ones. These are not just numbers; they are lives deeply affected by the cruel machinations of terror.

As anticipation builds for Trump’s return to the presidency, one can’t help but think of the potential for a bold wave of leadership reminiscent of the Reagan days. Should Trump succeed in swiftly confronting the threats posed by organizations like Hamas, it could very well signify a new era of assertive American foreign policy. The hope, undoubtedly shared by many, is that the remaining hostages are freed, and genuine justice is served for atrocities committed by those who would harm innocent people. In the face of desperation, may the old adage ring true: when it comes to dealing with evil, sometimes “all hell to pay” is exactly what’s needed.
