Red State Uprising Against Anti-Trump Lawfare Fund

Colorado Democrats are once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons, pushing a controversial plan to siphon $4 million of taxpayer money, originally earmarked for roads and bridges, into a legal war chest to fight the Trump administration in court. This move, modeled after California’s notorious approach under Gavin Newsom, is being slammed by Republicans as a blatant act of political gamesmanship at the expense of Colorado’s real needs. With crumbling infrastructure, rising crime, and struggling schools, it’s hard to see how diverting funds from basic services to partisan lawsuits serves anyone but the political ambitions of the state’s Democratic leadership.

The legislation, House Bill 1321, hands Governor Jared Polis sweeping authority to spend these millions on legal battles, hiring outside lawyers, and even defending state employees under federal investigation—all without the traditional oversight of the Attorney General’s office. Critics are right to call this a power grab. Instead of fixing potholes or funding public safety, Democrats are building a legal slush fund to insulate their radical agenda from federal oversight. It’s telling that the money comes from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, a federal program meant to improve Colorado’s roads and bridges, not bankroll lawsuits against the federal government.

This isn’t just about legal maneuvering; it’s about priorities. While Democrats claim they’re defending “state sovereignty,” the reality is they’re using taxpayer dollars to shield themselves from the consequences of their extreme policies. Recent bills passed by the Democratic majority include taxpayer-funded abortion, mandatory insurance coverage for transgender procedures for all ages, and a shocking new law that considers “misgendering” or “deadnaming” a child as grounds for losing custody. These moves are out of step with mainstream Colorado values and are rightly drawing national attention and outrage.

The so-called “Kelly Loving Act” is especially troubling. By labeling traditional parental guidance as “coercive control,” Democrats are inviting the state to intervene in families and punish parents who refuse to go along with the latest gender ideology. This is not about protecting children; it’s about silencing dissent and enforcing ideological conformity. Parents who believe in biological reality or simply want to raise their kids according to their faith and values now face the threat of losing custody—a chilling prospect that should concern every Coloradan, regardless of party.

At a time when Colorado families are struggling to afford necessities and public services are stretched thin, Democrats are prioritizing political theatrics over real solutions. Instead of building roads and bridges, they’re burning them—alienating parents, ignoring infrastructure, and funneling money into partisan legal battles. Coloradans deserve better: leaders who put the needs of their constituents first, not their political agendas.
