Rep Burchett Calls for GOP to Skip Convention, Probe Trump Attack Instead

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), proving he’s not afraid to ruffle a few feathers, has called for his colleagues to skip the 2024 Republican National Convention. Instead, he’s demanding they focus their efforts on investigating the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. A shot to the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, two days before the convention is a wake-up call that Burchett refuses to snooze through.

Burchett is urging his peers to prioritize getting to the bottom of this security debacle over attending what is sure to be a glitzy gathering. According to him, the time spent polishing speeches and shaking hands would be better utilized to examine how such a breach could occur right under the nose of the Secret Service. Burchett is clear: something went seriously wrong, and he wants answers.

The Tennessee representative is not pulling punches, pointing fingers at Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. Labelling her a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) pick rather than a capable leader, Burchett has his doubts about her competency. The fact that the shooter found a perch on a rooftop seems like an egregious oversight, one that Burchett is determined to scrutinize.

Adding a spiritual angle to his fierce critique, Burchett remarked that divine intervention played a role in saving Trump’s life. He hopes this close call serves as a stark reminder to the former President about who’s in charge. As for those spinning theories that the whole thing was staged to boost Trump’s support, Burchett dismisses them outright as blatant idiocy.

While the Republican National Convention is set to feature a roster of high-profile speakers, from Rep. Byron Donalds (FL) to Tucker Carlson, and even a musical nod from Lee Greenwood, Burchett remains unwavering. To him, the real show ought to be in Washington, unravelling the threads of this near-tragedy—not basking in the spotlight. Trump himself, showing his characteristic defiance, initially considered delaying his speech but chose instead to stand firm, refusing to let an assassin alter his plans.
