The Virginia Republican has gathered some eye-opening evidence to support his case. He reveals how universities are shamelessly allocating huge chunks of grant money to beef up their diversity and equity staff, leading to mind-boggling imbalances in comparison to other academic departments. For instance, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a staggering 13 times more DEI staff than staff providing services to students with disabilities.
Cline is not just picking on numbers for fun. He’s got studies on his side, showing that increasing DEI staff doesn’t necessarily bridge achievement gaps and can even lead to more division and antisemitism. His bill has already won the backing of the Heritage Action, which shares Cline’s passion in putting a leash on reckless grant spending.
