RNC Honors Gold Star Families, Highlights Biden’s Afghanistan Failures

In Milwaukee, the Republican National Convention lit up with chants of “USA! USA!” as Gold Star families stood in the spotlight, honored for their sacrifices. These families lost loved ones in a disastrous moment during President Joe Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. The tragic suicide bombing by ISIS-K at Kabul’s airport claimed the lives of 13 brave U.S. service members, a dark stain on Biden’s presidency.

The attack, which occurred at the Abbey Gate of Hamid Karzai International Airport in August 2021, was a devastating blow. The explosion took the lives of 11 Marines, one soldier from the 8th Psychological Operations Group, and one Navy corpsman. Alongside American heroes, 169 Afghan civilians perished, showcasing the failure of the current administration’s chaotic exit strategy.

As the families of these fallen warriors addressed the Republican convention, the crowd was reminded of Biden’s infamous watch-checking moment—a disrespectful gesture during the dignified transfer of their loved ones. This slap in the face to those who serve contrasted sharply with former President Donald Trump’s approach. Trump not only remembered the names of these brave souls but inspired the convention to loudly echo each name back in tribute.

Marine Sgt. Darin Taylor Hoover’s mother, Kelly Barnett, expressed the anguish of many. She asserted that Biden let her son down, as well as the 13 fallen heroes, the 45 wounded, and the 174 civilians who also suffered. Her sentiment resonated deeply, illustrating how the current administration has let the nation down at crucial moments.

Rep. Mike Waltz of Florida also criticized Biden during the event, highlighting how the blundered withdrawal coincided with a sharp drop in Biden’s approval ratings. He recalled the “disgraceful” retreat from Afghanistan and noted that the fallen families have to relive this administration’s incompetence daily. Unlike Biden, who supposedly won’t even take their calls, Trump had spent six hours with these grieving families, showcasing a level of empathy and dedication that Biden seems incapable of matching.

In a display of Biden’s tone-deaf arrogance, it was reported that he clashed with Rep. Jason Crow over their military honors. Biden had the audacity to compare his late son Beau’s Bronze Star—earned nowhere near a combat zone—to Crow’s, which was awarded for gallantry in battle. This incident encapsulates the ongoing frustrations and disappointments many feel with Biden’s leadership and, more importantly, his apparent disconnect from the realities faced by American heroes and their families.
