The liberal Democrats have a long history of putting symbolism over substance, with Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society programs leading the charge in 1965. Fast forward to today, and Democrats are facing the consequences of their virtue-signaling with the explosion of sanctuary cities across America.

Thanks to Joe Biden’s disastrous border policies, these sanctuary cities are now struggling to cope with the influx of illegal aliens that are pouring in faster than a kid in a candy store. It’s no wonder Democrats are backtracking on their sanctuary city status quicker than Biden can stumble over his words – or in this case, trip and fall.
Take the case of Brandon Johnson, the hapless mayor of Chicago who is making his predecessor, Lori Lightfoot, look like a genius in comparison. Chicago, once proud of its sanctuary city status, is now being forced to evict thousands of illegal aliens from city shelters due to the overwhelming influx of newcomers.
Mayor Johnson claims to be committed to compassion, but reality is hitting hard as Chicago’s resources are stretched thin trying to accommodate the never-ending stream of illegals. It’s easy to talk the talk, but walking the walk when faced with the harsh realities of illegal immigration is a different story.
With the recent measles outbreak in Chicago shelters, it’s clear that the city is struggling to handle the health and safety concerns that come with hosting a large number of illegal aliens. Despite the challenges, Mayor Johnson is pushing ahead with plans to relocate thousands of individuals from temporary shelters by the end of April, with more to follow.
And who does Mayor Johnson blame for Chicago’s predicament? Not Joe Biden, whose border policies have opened the floodgates, but Texas Governor Greg Abbott. It seems Democrats would rather point fingers at Republicans than take responsibility for their own failures.
The bottom line is that sanctuary cities are a prime example of Democrats prioritizing virtue signaling over practical solutions. Until they face the harsh realities of illegal immigration head-on, these liberal-run cities will continue to struggle with the consequences of their own misguided policies. It’s a lesson they seem determined never to learn.
