The drums of impeachment are beating once again among Democrats, and this time, it seems like they’ve tuned out reality and common sense in favor of a good old-fashioned witch hunt. It’s amusing to see Republicans sitting back and watching the Democrats whirl into a frenzy of impeachment talk about Donald Trump. This show has about as much suspense as your average TV rerun, given the fact that it all seems to unravel into a gigantic nothing-burger, destined to be sliced and diced on those mainstream networks that nobody watches anymore.
To the regular folks out there, Trump’s previous impeachment attempt over a phone call with Ukraine was nothing more than political theater, and not even the kind with good reviews. Despite this, the well-scripted drama only seemed to bolster Trump’s popularity rather than diminish it. It serves as a good reminder that attempting to push through an impeachment without concrete, credible proof is like trying to paddle upstream without a paddle—or credibility.
Now, fast forward to today’s chatter. Democrats like Jon Ossoff are back to tossing around the “I-word” as a strategy to combat Trump’s agenda yet again, presumably as part of a political playbook that favors show over substance. It is interesting to note that since they need a two-thirds majority to actually remove Trump from office, these acts of political theater seem bound to simply entertain, rather than enforce any real change. They might be better off writing a screenplay at this point.
Meanwhile, on the topic of Democrats needing a new charismatic leader, it’s like they’re on a treasure hunt for this mythical figure. Apparently, they crave someone with the “alpha energy” that will save their party from its internal chaos. It’s as if they believe that a Superman-type can swoop in to rescue the Democratic ship from sinking into excessive left-wing policies that leave them out of touch with middle America. Unsurprisingly, the usual candidates like Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Sanders, or Gavin Newsom, with his Ken doll appearance, have not exactly set hearts blazing or inspired any overwhelming confidence that they can unite the country under the Democratic flag.
As this continued saga unfolds, the irony is not lost on anyone paying attention. A genuine, charismatic leader might be what Democrats aspire to find, but more significantly, what they need is a good dose of reality and a shift towards the center. This dream of hitting the jackpot with a perfectly built candidate is hilariously fantastical and as misguided as trying to ride off a cliff into political oblivion, which they might very well accomplish if they stick to their current strategies.
While Democrats juggle their political ambitions and search high and low for a messianic figure, author Joe Concha gives readers a glimpse behind the Trump curtain in his book “The Greatest Comeback Ever.” It promises not just an insight into Trump but also may serve as a study in resilience and determination—traits both parties could learn from. Concha highlights that in politics, much like in life, riding the waves of trial and triumph bears lessons aplenty, lessons that one presumes would help guide the Democrats away from the precipice they seem so eager to approach.
