The Secret Service is once again under intense scrutiny for their apparent failure to secure former President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. During an alarming assassination attempt, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks positioned himself on a rooftop just 200 yards away from the stage, managing to fire a shot that grazed Trump’s right ear, narrowly missing a fatal headshot by mere millimeters.
One has to wonder how on Earth the Secret Service overlooked a rooftop so dangerously close to the rally. Yet shockingly, despite this near-tragic incident, the agency has stated that it will not be ramping up security at the Republican National Convention. The Secret Service, ever brimming with confidence in their “plans,” have decided that they’re just fine as is without making any additional protective measures.
Town Hall: Secret Service Has No Plans to Beef Up Security at RNC Following Trump Assassination Attempt https://t.co/TH2ZCH2urP

It’s almost ludicrous. The agency, led by their RNC convention coordinator, insists that their current security setup is sufficient to handle the potentially explosive atmosphere around the convention. This setup—a mix of tactical perimeters and routes for armed protesters to the so-called “soft perimeter”—is what they’re touting as airtight. One can only imagine how much more competent their so-called “hard perimeter” must be around the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee where Trump and GOP stalwarts will congregate.
For nearly a year and a half, the Secret Service and RNC officials have been working on security logistics for the thousands of people set to attend. Despite this dedicated effort, fears continue to rise to a fever pitch post-attempted assassination. The brazenness of the attack just heightens the problem that the agency is clearly unwilling, or perhaps unable, to truly address.
Digging deeper reveals even more concerning allegations. Secret Service agents have flagged various issues such as inadequate training, double standards in disciplinary actions, and a searing vulnerability to insider threats. If only this were merely between the lines, but inside sources reveal that repeated requests for more protective resources for Trump have been denied repeatedly by Biden’s Department of Homeland Security.
The reality is even graver—the protective details for Trump have had to lean heavily on local law enforcement, illustrating the extent of the federal government’s cold shoulder. It’s a dangerous game they’re playing, leaving Trump vulnerable and open to further potential threats. With the RNC right around the corner, one has to wonder if the Secret Service and DHS are ready to face the music—or if they’ll just continue dancing around their glaring inadequacies
