In a resounding victory for conservatives and supporters of Israel, the Senate passed a resolution on October 26 condemning Hamas and the rise of anti-Semitism on college campuses across the country. The resolution, introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley, highlights the terrorist group Hamas’ recent attacks on Israel, which have resulted in the deaths of 30 U.S. citizens and the disappearance of at least 13 others. In a powerful statement, the resolution describes the horrific atrocities committed by Hamas, including the targeted killing, rape, and mutilation of innocent civilians, even including infants. The Senate leaves no room for ambiguity, firmly standing against the brutal actions of Hamas.

The passage of this resolution is particularly timely given recent incidents of anti-Semitism on college campuses. Just two days ago, George Washington University was the scene of a disturbing display, as anti-Semitic messages were projected onto the school’s library. The police were eventually forced to intervene, shutting down messages like “Free Palestine From the River to the Sea,” a clear call to eradicate the nation of Israel. The messages also celebrated terrorist groups such as Hamas and accused university President Ellen Granberg of being complicit in the alleged genocide in Gaza. These actions are not isolated incidents; they are part of a concerning trend plaguing our universities.
Cooper Union in New York City saw Jewish students trapped inside the library while pro-Palestinian demonstrators pounded on the doors and spewed anti-Semitic rhetoric. At Harvard University, student groups released a statement irresponsibly blaming Israel for the actions of Hamas. And at New York University School of Law, the then-president of the Student Bar Association expressed absolute solidarity with Palestinians, declaring that Israel bore full responsibility for the loss of life. Disturbing video footage was also released of this individual vandalizing posters of missing Israelis. These examples demonstrate the dangerous influence of anti-Israel, pro-Hamas student groups that espouse rhetoric glamorizing violence and jeopardizing the safety of Jewish Americans.
The Senate resolution forcefully condemns these reprehensible acts and declarations of anti-Semitism. It asserts Israel’s right to exist and defend itself and emphasizes the rights of Jewish Americans to safety and security within the United States. Furthermore, the resolution urges the U.S. government to fully support Israel and its right to exist. This resolution is a powerful assertion of American values and a clear signal to the world that conservatives will not tolerate anti-Semitism or terrorist organizations like Hamas. As the conflict between Israel and Hamas rages on, it is more important than ever that America stands firmly with Israel, the only true democracy in the Middle East.
