Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso from Wyoming took to the Senate floor to deliver a passionate plea for sanity amid the Democratic-led circus that seems to be more focused on obstruction than governance. Barrasso challenged Senate Democrats to stop dragging their feet and confirm President Donald Trump’s qualified nominees. The rhetoric surrounding the nominees has reached a fever pitch, with numerous Democrats paying lip service to their qualifications while simultaneously pulling out every trick in the book to stall their confirmations.
In particular, Barrasso highlighted the nomination of John Ratcliffe for the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, which received a solid 14-3 bipartisan vote in the Intelligence Committee. Yet, in a move that can only be described as a blatant display of partisan gymnastics, Democrats decided to throttle the clock and stall Ratcliffe’s confirmation. The risks associated with this delay are far too significant, given the current global landscape that demands a strong and capable leadership at the CIA. While time is of the essence, it appears that Democrats would rather engage in their favorite pastime—obstruction—than actually do their jobs.
The Majority Whip brought forth not just words of encouragement but also a clear warning that Senate Democrats might want to clear their schedules for the weekend. Apparently, the Senate is gearing up to work continuously to ensure Trump’s nominees are confirmed without further delays. This is not just about Ratcliffe; it’s about establishing a functional government that operates in the interests of the American people. A recent Fox News poll showed that a whopping 78 percent of Americans believe Democrats should collaborate with Trump. Perhaps the Democrats should take note of what the average American thinks, as opposed to what their party’s leaders are whispering in their ears.
Barrasso didn’t stop there. He noted that nearly all but two Democrats had indeed supported Kristi Noem’s nomination for Homeland Security, showcasing a clear inconsistency in the way that Democrats approach Trump’s nominees. Even more shocking is that some Democrats also supported Scott Bessent for Treasury Secretary, which raises the question of why there’s a concerted effort to obstruct others who are equally qualified.
Stop the delays!
John Barrasso on Democrats Stalling Trump Nominees: Americans Want Trump Nominees Confirmed, Not Resistancehttps://t.co/j6fakAJmbf

He also pointed out an interesting irony that Democrats have praised Trump’s nominees in the past. Senator Tammy Baldwin, for example, sang the praises of Sean Duffy as the perfect fit for Secretary of Transportation. In a time when everyone seems too hyper-partisan to recognize competency, many Democrats have come forward to endorse the effectiveness of Trump’s appointees. It appears they want to have their cake and eat it too—a classic case of ‘let’s pretend we don’t support these candidates while enjoying the fruits of their qualifications.’
According to Barrasso, the Senate’s constitutional mandate of “advice and consent” is being manipulated by disgruntled Democrats who use it as a justification for their puppeteering antics. Americans are tired of the games; they crave results, not relentless resistance. With the stakes higher than ever, it’s time for the Democrats to step back and reflect on their approach, lest they continue leading their party down a path of self-sabotage under the guise of opposition.
