In another chapter of the ongoing political drama that resembles more of a soap opera than a government at work, revelations have emerged about Biden’s FBI targeting Republican senators. As if the events of January 6th weren’t already controversial enough, it appears the investigation into them has taken a controversial turn. Nearly a dozen senators found themselves under the radar of Jack Smith and his team, reminiscent of a plot line out of a bad detective novel. Senator Grassley believes that repercussions are inevitable and imagines a scenario where heads will roll.
As the political spectacle unfolds, the Democrats seem to have concocted a new narrative to keep their already shaky wagon from toppling over. Our favorite entertainer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has served her party another convoluted anecdote, unflatteringly dubbed the “Mini Miller Hoax.” One could say she has a penchant for imaginative storytelling, though her aim often misses the mark.
The latest episode involved gratuitously mocking former White House advisor Stephen Miller for his height, despite him standing at a respectable 5’10” sans shoes. Perhaps Ocasio-Cortez should save the stones since her own backyard could use some weeding. Her fiancé isn’t exactly the dashing hero she might wish him to be, what with his questionable fashion choices involving Birkenstocks and a penchant for sipping from straws. And heaven forbid anyone accuses her of jealousy simply for discussing public figures.
In the midst of these side shows, one cannot ignore the irony of the government shutdown orchestrated by Chuck Schumer to demonstrate his party’s might. Amusingly, the nation doesn’t seem to have noticed its absence much. One might speculate that the federal government does little more than lavish taxpayer money on absurd expenditures — like baking classes for male escorts in Haiti or medical procedures in Zambia — to warrant such fervent defense of its operations.
And with tongue firmly in cheek, it’s rather amusing to watch AOC and her allies twist themselves into knots trying to justify these expenses. As they demand more funds and governmental overreach, the Republican resistance stands firm, drawing the line against what they see as fiscal lunacy. With this dichotomy in mind, the concern remains whether the Democrats can recover any semblance of credibility if they continue down this path. The only sensible option, some might suggest, is to get back to business — sane business, not the circus currently on display.
