‘Squad’ Rep Caught in Hypocritical Landlord Fiasco

The Department of Homeland Security has launched the second phase of its crackdown in Massachusetts, dubbed Operation Patriot 2.0, with ICE agents once again stepping in where local leadership refuses. Earlier this year, the operation netted 1,400 arrests, including drug traffickers, child predators, and fugitives, with nearly 800 serious offenders now facing justice and over 270 handed off to immigration courts for swift deportation. While the federal government makes headway in pulling dangerous criminals off the streets, state and local leaders remain reluctant to cooperate, hiding behind legal loopholes and political theater.

Massachusetts, like many deep-blue states, ties the hands of local police when it comes to working with ICE agents, effectively shielding criminal offenders simply because they happen to be illegal immigrants. Instead of aiding federal agents in protecting communities, leaders are locked in a bureaucratic power struggle that makes little sense to law-abiding citizens. The result? ICE agents are forced to be more visible—and more aggressive—in neighborhoods where local governments won’t cooperate. Federal agencies shouldn’t have to play catch-up because local politicians prioritize ideology over safety.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is a prime example of this brand of political posturing. Standing firm against ICE may play well with her progressive base, but it also leaves her city vulnerable to the very dangers the operation seeks to eliminate. With her political career on the line and reelection looming, Wu has doubled down on defiance, casting herself as a hero against the “big bad” federal government. Yet the truth remains—if she genuinely cared about public safety, she would push her allies in the state legislature to roll back laws that shield criminals from deportation.

The irony doesn’t end there. Cue Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, a self-styled champion of the working class, who frequently rails against capitalism’s excesses while quietly amassing over $8 million in assets, including luxury rental properties. The hypocrisy is almost too rich. It’s always the anti-capitalist darlings who profit most from the system they claim to despise. Pressley has no problem preaching about taxing the rich, all while living comfortably on the spoils of the very system she condemns. For voters paying attention, this double standard is a glaring reminder of why progressive elites can’t be trusted.

At the end of the day, Operation Patriot 2.0 highlights two fundamental truths: federal officers will continue doing the job state leaders refuse to do, and progressives like Mayor Wu and Rep. Pressley care more about playing politics than protecting families. As ICE drags serious offenders out of hiding, Massachusetts liberals posture and virtue-signal, hoping no one notices the violent criminals slipping through the cracks. The good news for law-abiding Americans is that the federal government is finally treating this crisis with the seriousness it deserves—even if local “leaders” would rather tie their own hands than admit ICE is doing the work that saves lives.
