Supreme Court Blocks Biden’s Gender Identity Expansion of Title IX

Title IX, the landmark legislation from 1972 that aimed to ensure women had a level playing field in education, is experiencing a modern twist that would make even the most seasoned political pundit raise an eyebrow. The Biden administration has been pushing to redefine this protection to include gender identity, stretching the original intent of the law thinner than a liberal’s patience on social media. Thankfully, the U.S. Supreme Court recently put the brakes on this dubious expansion.

Republican attorneys general across a multitude of states have jumped into action, filing lawsuits that have managed to halt these progressive changes in about half the country. With injunctive relief being granted in these cases, the Biden administration is now scrambling to contain this legal mess by attempting to narrow the injunctions. But just as the administration thought a simple tap on the shoulder would do the trick, the Supreme Court, in a close 5-4 decision, affirmed that the judges would uphold these injunctions while the litigation shakes out. It seems that the justices were not convinced that the Biden administration had given them a compelling reason to interfere with lower court decisions, as the urgency of the matter didn’t quite pass the smell test.

In the chaotic atmosphere of California politics, it’s getting “interesting” to say the least. On the same day the Supreme Court decided to maintain these injunctions, California Democratic Representative Robert Garcia made headlines with an eyebrow-raising remark that Congress needs more “radical homosexuals.” That’s right, a sitting member of Congress is advocating for an upgrade in the LGBTQ+ presence on Capitol Hill like it’s a bad reality TV casting call. Garcia, proud of his identity, emphasized a need for lawmakers to push hard for issues surrounding trans rights and health care, presumably while orchestrating a dramatic congressional takeover that would make Game of Thrones look like a Sunday afternoon picnic.

Despite the loud calls from the left, the general American public seems less than enthusiastic about this radical agenda. A Gallup poll from last year shows that a whopping 69% of Americans believe athletes should compete based on their biological sex alone—up from 62% just two years prior. Not to be outdone, 55% think that changing one’s gender is morally wrong, marking a steady increase in this sentiment. It turns out that while some lawmakers are busy pushing gender policies, most Americans are still holding onto their common sense.

As the nation watches this battle unfurl in the courts and on Capitol Hill, it becomes more apparent that there is a significant disconnect between the radical left and the mainstream American populace. The judiciary is firmly standing by the original intent of Title IX, putting a damper on liberal efforts to bend the law to fit their narrative. Meanwhile, it looks like Congress will have to reckon with its own ranks as it grapples with who they listen to: the majority of Americans or the more flamboyant voices from within their party. In the end, it raises the question: what will actually resonate more with voters—the radical agenda or the tried-and-true principles of fairness and common sense?
