President Trump made the right call when he ended Kamala Harris’s special Secret Service protection last week. The law says former vice presidents only get six months of protection, not the 18 months that Biden tried to give his failed running mate. Why should hardworking Americans pay extra to protect someone who couldn’t even win her home state?
Now Los Angeles taxpayers are stuck with the bill for Harris’s around-the-clock security detail. The LAPD has officers sitting outside her mansion 24/7 while real crimes go unsolved across the city. These are the same Metro officers who should be stopping car thefts and catching drug dealers instead of babysitting a washed-up politician.
Harris lost the election badly and went back to her multi-million dollar California home to write a book about her failures. She doesn’t need taxpayer-funded bodyguards to protect her while she cashes in on tell-all memoir deals. Regular Americans don’t get personal security when they lose their jobs.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Los Angeles residents who are already dealing with sky-high crime rates. Police resources are being pulled away from protecting actual victims to guard someone who chose to stay in politics. Meanwhile, small business owners and families are left to fend for themselves on dangerous streets.
Democrat Mayor Karen Bass is crying about political retaliation, but Trump is just following the law that applies to every other former vice president. Mike Pence didn’t get special treatment when he left office in 2021. Why should Harris be any different just because she’s a Democrat darling?
Governor Newsom is now talking about using California Highway Patrol officers to help protect Harris too. That means even more state tax dollars going to guard one person instead of keeping highways safe for millions of drivers. California families are already crushed by taxes and can’t afford this waste.
Harris is planning a fancy world book tour with 15 stops around the globe to promote her memoir. She’ll make millions from book deals and speaking fees while taxpayers foot the security bill. It’s the perfect example of how out-of-touch elites expect special treatment on the public dime.
Trump ended this sweetheart deal because he puts America First, not failed politicians first. Every dollar spent protecting Harris is a dollar not spent on border security, veterans, or helping real Americans who need it. It’s time for Harris to hire her own private security like any other wealthy celebrity.
