Thompson’s Jan 6 Games: Concealing Evidence or Plot Against Trump?

The House Jan. 6 Select Committee, led by Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, has been causing quite a stir. They've been stirring the pot by sending records to prosecutors who've slapped charges against former President Donald Trump. At first, Mr. Thompson denied that such material had been saved, but then spilled the beans in a letter to House Administration Oversight Chairman Barry Loudermilk, a Georgia Republican. The Select Committee claims they sent evidence of potential crimes to prosecutors investigating Trump's alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 Presidential election and the January 6th insurrection.

The Republicans are up in arms! They're investigating whether the Select Committee supported Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis in building a criminal case against Trump. It's reported that the committee shared records with Willis, giving crucial evidence about what Trump and his top advisers knew regarding Georgia’s 2020 election results.

In a letter to Thompson, Loudermilk expressed concern about transparency. He questioned the lack of records detailing communication between the Select Committee and Willis's office. Plus, Thompson denying preserving video recordings or transcribed interviews is raising eyebrows.

And then, House GOP investigators found a letter from Willis requesting records from Thompson. Yet, Thompson stood his ground, claiming they didn't share any records.

Thompson tried to squirm out by invoking a House rule requiring separate records from the chair's records. Convenient, right? He also said all archived records were transferred.
