Former President Donald Trump is shaking his head at the Republican candidate who failed to secure victory in the special election against Democrat Tom Suozzi. In typical Trump fashion, he didn’t hold back in his criticism of the GOP contender, Mazi Pilip, suggesting that she might as well have been a Democrat all along.

Trump isn’t one to miss a beat, pointing out that Pilip’s history as a registered Democrat didn’t do the Republicans any favors. In Trump’s eyes, Pilip’s failure to fully embrace the MAGA movement cost her the election, as she attempted to “straddle the fence” instead of throwing her full weight behind modern-day conservative politics.
The former president made it clear that he expects nothing less than full-throttle support from any candidate seeking the Republican nomination. With his trademark bravado, he called for a “real” GOP candidate to step up and take on Suozzi in the November election, confident that the Democrat could be easily bested with the right contender.
Not one to let disappointment linger, Trump took a jab at the GOP and their failure to rally behind Pilip, suggesting that the MAGA faction of the party stayed home in protest of feeling undervalued. In his view, the Republican establishment’s disregard for the wishes of the base cost them the seat, delivering a blow to the House majority.

George Santos echoed Trump’s sentiments, emphasizing that the 3rd Congressional District of New York is undeniably “MAGA country,” and that the GOP’s failure to show proper respect for the base led to their downfall. Santos boldly declared that his previous victory in the district was achieved without the support of big money, attributing his success to grassroots efforts and unwavering loyalty to the MAGA cause.
