Once again, President Donald Trump proves he isn’t afraid to take a bold stance, especially when confronting foreign leaders who put America last. This time, the battleground is Colombia and its president, Gustavo Petro, who is overseeing a nation that has become a factory for cocaine. Trump has delivered a clear message in response: the United States will not continue to fund a country that turns a blind eye to the drug menace destroying American lives.
Petro’s track record speaks for itself. Under his watch, cocaine production in Colombia has skyrocketed, reaching historic levels. Armed groups operate freely, producing this poison without much resistance from the government. It’s a slap in the face to every American when a nation we subsidize decides to indulge in creating chaos in our communities with drugs. President Trump’s resolve to stop payments is a much-needed wake-up call.

This relationship has been tumultuous from the get-go. Petro has demonstrated time and again his disdain for American interests, even urging soldiers in New York to incite violence. Such reckless behavior should never be tolerated, and President Trump has rightly taken action by revoking his visa. Yet Petro continues down his destructive path, and Trump’s decision to cut off financial support is a long-overdue response.
What’s rich in this scenario is the liberal agenda’s deafening silence. While they preach about compassion and global cooperation, they’re more than willing to ignore leaders like Petro, who actively stoke instability. The hypocrisy is crystal clear when the same liberal voices fail to condemn these behaviors but then criticize proactive measures to defend American sovereignty.
Now, as this financial lifeline is severed, it’s up to Petro to clean up his act. But will he? Or is it time for the United States to take stronger action to protect its citizens? It seems that when dealing with foreign despots who fail their own people, nothing short of strict measures will suffice. President Trump is certainly setting that standard. Who will follow? Are we going to continue to let such blatant disrespect go unchallenged?
