In a development that feels straight out of a badly written spy novel, former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally, sparking an outcry from former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino for the resignation of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. The audacious shooter, perched on a rooftop a mere 150 yards away, managed to take a piece off Trump’s ear – a chilling reminder of the catastrophic incompetence within the agency tasked with safeguarding leaders of the free world.
While Secret Service officials scrabble to defend their shoddy security protocols, Bongino has outright demanded Cheatle step down. The former agent, who spent over a decade in the trenches of the Secret Service, cannot fathom how Cheatle has the gall to stay in her post after what he described as an apocalypse-level security failure.
According to Bongino, the usual spate of bureaucratic jargon spewed by the agency in a statement – claiming all the bells and whistles of additional protective resources, technology, and capabilities – smells more like desperation than reassurance. He pointed out the absurdity of boasting about state-of-the-art technology when an assassin was able to set up shop and take aim at a highly-visible former president in broad daylight.
Is the public really supposed to buy that Secret Service counter-snipers, trained to take out threats from up to 1,000 yards, couldn’t neutralize a shooter a stone’s throw away? To make matters worse, bystanders allegedly tried to warn the Secret Service detail and police for minutes before the would-be assassin pulled the trigger. This glaring failure isn’t just a breach; it’s a gaping black hole in national security.

Adding fuel to the fire, Bongino claims he has ironclad proof that Trump’s security detail had repeatedly requested beefed-up defenses – requests that were inexplicably denied. One has to wonder if this is sheer negligence or something more sinister. Overconfident bureaucrats who rebuffed these pleas ought to be held accountable for gambling with the life of an American icon.
It’s now up to the FBI to lead the investigation, but that hardly inspires confidence given their track record. Americans deserve answers. And more importantly, they deserve leaders who prioritize the safety of their elected officials instead of sitting in air-conditioned offices, issuing empty reassurances, and hoping the problem just goes away. Cheatle’s resignation isn’t just recommended; it’s essential.
