The recent clash between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris can only be described as a circus—one where the clowns clearly had a favorite. In what was supposed to be a vigorous debate between two candidates, the scales tipped heavily to Harris’s side thanks to the curious choice of ABC’s moderators. The debate turned into a three-on-one affair, with Trump outnumbered and outmaneuvered at every turn.
ABC’s two so-called moderators, David Muir and Linsey Davis, took on the roles of fact-checkers and attack dogs, constantly interrupting Trump and pressing him on various controversies. In stark contrast, Harris was treated like delicate china; the moderators barely nudged her on her most dubious statements, letting her dodge questions with the grace of a skilled politician. It’s almost as if being in the presence of a sitting Vice President required the moderators to don kid gloves.

While Trump tried to defend himself against an unabated barrage of hostile questioning, the moderators quickly shifted gears to let Harris continue her attacks. Viewers could almost hear the echoes of an old saying: “The fix is in.” Harris’s lack of pushback from Muir and Davis was so glaring that it became the evening’s biggest storyline, overshadowing any meaningful discourse over policies or plans.
Even those who lean left couldn’t ignore the absurdity of the situation. Megyn Kelly, a former debate moderator herself, bemoaned the evident bias. She expressed disbelief as the moderators piled on Trump while letting Harris cruise through unscathed. If there was a gold medal for favoritism, the moderators would have taken home the prize, and everyone knew it. The irony is that the moderators’ behavior may have inadvertently boosted Trump’s standing by making the debate itself seem ridiculously unfair.
Political commentators were quick to point out the glaring disparities in treatment. Instead of steering the debate towards enlightening discussion, it seemed the moderators were collecting their paychecks while handing the night’s victory to Trump by making themselves the focus. Davids Muir was more intent on criticizing Trump than allowing Harris to articulate any coherent responses, effectively letting her off the hook. The stage was set for Harris to shine, but thanks to ABC’s attempts at weighting the scales, it became painfully obvious that when it came to fair debate, this was a total fail.
