This new directive arrives just hours after Trump yanked President Biden’s security clearance, showing that he isn’t one to play favorites, even with the top brass.
The real kicker in this saga comes from Antony Blinken, the former Secretary of State who was among those who famously peddled the notion that Hunter Biden’s laptop was a Russian hoax. It turns out that a group of 51 former intelligence officials used a dubious letter to justify the suppression of the bombshell story that ultimately proved accurate. Now, they will all find themselves on the outside looking in—suddenly barred from secure federal facilities and stripped of the privileges that go along with being cleared for classified information.
As Trump continues his “security clearance cleanse,” the fate of Blinken and his intel buddies hangs in the air. Trump’s supporters will certainly be amused by the irony of a man who once misled the public about foreign meddling now being barred from seeing what’s classified. The former president has declared that these figures deserve the “exact same punishment” he doles out to Biden and the other 51 signatories, which is akin to saying if you can’t handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
For the misguided duo of James and Bragg, this new development appears to be less a glaring threat and more a symbolic slap on the wrist. Sure, they might be unable to strut into federal courthouses or even set foot in the U.S. Attorney’s offices in New York, which limits their ability to exercise their political agendas. But it’s hard to deny that some see this as more of an amusing jab than a real deterrent to their ongoing anti-Trump endeavors. The reality is that they can still work from home while engaging in their politically motivated pursuits from behind a computer screen.
