Trump Sues to Stop Biden’s Border Wall Material Auction

Donald Trump has jumped back into the legal fray, targeting the Biden administration’s latest attempt to auction off parts of the border wall. In a lawsuit filed in Texas, Trump argues that conducting such a sale may even be criminal, potentially putting Biden and his cohorts in hot water. The former president’s legal team filed an amicus brief in support of motions from Missouri and Texas, aiming to clarify whether the Biden administration has blatantly ignored a prior court injunction meant to keep federal funds designated solely for wall construction.

This action was sparked by reports of what could only be described as a “fire sale” of border wall materials, an effort that has conservatives across the nation shaking their heads. Trump’s lawsuit demands an immediate halt to the sale of these materials until a court can determine if Biden’s maneuvers indeed run afoul of the law. It appears that while Bitcoin has been fluctuating wildly, the Biden administration has decided to treat the border wall like the last pair of clearance shoes at a thrift store.

Amidst this legal battle, a notable Republican voice emerged. Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee has introduced a bill to stop the federal government from using taxpayer dollars to “deconstruct, dismantle or otherwise render inoperable” any part of the border barrier. More than just a symbolic gesture, Hagerty’s legislation aims to ensure that no federal funds are misused to sell off, give away, or otherwise dispose of border wall materials that were initially bought to protect American sovereignty.

Under current laws, the White House has already been instructed to dispose of unused border wall pieces as part of the National Defense Authorization Act. This effectively gave the government permission to sell or donate those materials to states along the border for refurbishing existing barriers. However, Trump isn’t holding back in his accusations; he suggests that the Biden administration is purposefully selling wall materials at a loss to undermine pro-wall policies—perhaps a clever way of calling their strategy self-sabotage.

Even as the Biden administration tries to wave their hand and claim there’s little left to sell, the Defense Department states they can’t block further sales because the border materials have already been doled out. Customs and Border Protection reportedly sent supplies to California and Texas months ago, with the remaining gear finding a new home through GovPlanet, a company that specializes in flipping government surplus. The whole situation raises eyebrows among conservatives, who are left to wonder just how far the current administration is willing to go to dismantle measures put in place for national security—all while claiming it’s just good fiscal policy.
