Trump Surges Ahead: Young and Hispanic Voters Pivot Right!

In a new poll released on Monday, it appears that former President Donald Trump is leading President Joe Biden as the nation gears up for the 2024 election. This raises the possibility of a rematch between the two contenders who faced off in the 2020 presidential race. What’s interesting is that Trump is also ahead in two demographics that played a crucial role in Biden’s victory in 2020: young and Hispanic voters.

According to the USA Today/Suffolk University poll, Trump currently holds a lead over Biden with 39 percent support to the incumbent’s 37 percent. When seven candidates are listed by name, Trump gains an additional percentage point, leading 37 to 34 percent, with independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. coming in third at 10 percent support.

It’s worth noting that other liberal candidates, such as Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independent former Harvard University professor Cornel West, are also vying for a place on the November ballot. However, it seems like the race is primarily heating up between Trump and Biden.

This poll was conducted among 1,000 likely voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent. It also revealed that Trump is leading among voters under 35 by 4 percent, with a breakdown of 37 to 33 percent. This is a significant shift considering that in 2020, Biden won this demographic by a landslide, securing a 24-percentage point lead.

The poll also highlights a similar decline in support for Biden among Hispanics compared to the 2020 race. Trump is now leading in this demographic by 5 points, with 39 to 34 percent in his favor. In contrast, Biden had carried Hispanics by 65 to 32 percent last year.

African-American voters represent another group where the president is experiencing a drop in support. While Biden maintained his 12 percent backing among this demographic, it’s worth noting that 63 percent of black voters say they would choose him. The rest plan to either support a third-party or independent candidate.

Critics argue that Biden’s loss of support among younger voters stems from his failure to deliver on promises such as canceling student loan debt and his backing of Israel during its conflict with Hamas terrorists. This shift in sentiment among younger voters could prove to be detrimental to Biden’s chances of winning in 2024.

As the GOP primary race commences, with the Iowa caucuses taking place on January 15, the stage is set for a potentially fierce battle between Trump and Biden, with both candidates vying for the support of key demographics that could significantly impact the outcome of the election.
