In a recent turn of events, former President Donald Trump has put the Republican National Committee (RNC) in their place, urging them to hold off on calling him the “presumptive nominee” until he’s got every last necessary vote in the bag. That’s right, folks – the Donald is making sure he’s in complete control of the narrative, and he’s not about to let anyone jump the gun in an attempt to oust him from the spotlight.
Now, reports have been flying around that the RNC is mulling over the idea of officially tagging Trump as the “presumptive nominee,” especially after he aced the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary. But hold your horses, folks, because Trump still needs to meet all the delegate requirements to clinch the nomination. If the RNC were to go ahead with this resolution, it would mean Trump gets a whole bunch of goodies, including access to the RNC’s data operation, fundraising support, and the backing of the committee’s ground operations. But Trump isn’t having any of it. He took to his favorite new social media platform, Truth Social, to advise the RNC to pump the brakes on this whole “presumptive nominee” business. He’s worried it could cause a rift in the party, and you know the Don is all about that “party unity.” He’s graciously declining the offer and wants to stick to the good ol’ fashioned way of finishing the process off at the ballot box. Well, isn’t that just noble of him?
But wait, there’s more! His lone opponent, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, doesn’t seem keen on stepping down just yet. RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel even called for Haley to pack it up after Trump’s big win in New Hampshire. She’s got her eyes on the prize and is already gearing up for a showdown with Joe Biden come the general election. The RNC, of course, is fully on board with Trump, making it crystal clear that he’s their man and they’re going to fight tooth and nail to take down ol’ Sleepy Joe.
So, there you have it – Trump is playing hard to get, the RNC is hyping him up, and Nikki Haley is still in the mix.
