In a shocking twist that’s sure to ruffle some feathers, former President Donald Trump is stirring the pot with his recommendation for a new head honcho at the Republican National Committee (RNC). So, who’s the lucky guy? None other than North Carolina GOP bigwig Michael Whatley, according to a super reliable source in the know. And let’s just say, there might be some major changes afoot, with the current RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel potentially hitting the road after the South Carolina Republican primary on Feb. 24.
Trump didn’t hold back during an interview on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures, hinting that it might be time for a little shake-up at the RNC. He praised McDaniel’s past work but let slip that some changes might be on the horizon. And it looks like the rumor mill wasn’t too far off, as a little birdie told Fox News that a leadership swaperoo is in the cards post-South Carolina primary, with Whatley sitting pretty at the top of Trump’s recommendation list. Why, you might ask? Well, it seems like Trump is singing Whatley’s praises for his efforts in the fight against election fraud.

While the North Carolina GOP had zipped lips when reached for comment by the Washington Examiner, it’s clear that the stage is set for a potential power shuffle at the RNC. As if that weren’t enough drama for one day, speculation about McDaniel’s future with the party is running rampant, with RNC spokesman Keith Schipper playing it cool and saying, “Nothing has changed.” Talk about a cliffhanger!
Now, here’s where it gets juicy. Whatley isn’t just your run-of-the-mill GOP guy. Nope, he’s a firm believer in beefing up election security and making sure our voting process is as squeaky-clean as a freshly scrubbed pot. In fact, rumor has it that he’s been labeled as a “stop the steal guy” by some folks in the know. That’s the kind of gumption that Trump values in a party leader, especially in the wake of his electoral loss to ol’ Joe Biden. And get this – even after Biden took the presidency, Whatley was still out there introducing Trump as “our president.” Talk about unwavering loyalty!
But hold onto your hats, folks. As much as Trump might be waving Whatley’s flag, the powers that be at the RNC will ultimately have the final say. There’s some serious division in the ranks when it comes to leadership choices, with McDaniel snagging 111 votes for her reelection last year. Her closest rival, California’s Harmeet Dhillon, only managed to pull in 51 votes, while MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell was left brushing off his shoulders with a measly four votes. It’s clear that there’s some serious debate brewing in the committee.
In fact, things got so heated that a chunk of the committee members decided to host their very own “alternate RNC meeting” last month, throwing some major shade on the RNC’s winter meeting. We’re talking 50 to 70 committee members duking it out at this offshoot event organized by Turning Point Action. Drama, drama, drama!
