President Trump has once again proven that when it comes to the art of getting things done, he stands in a league of his own. This past Fourth of July, while the nation was busy celebrating the land of the free, he was busy signing what some are calling one of the most significant pieces of legislation in modern history. In almost unprecedented fashion, this legislative accomplishment marks an impressive start to his second term, a period typically reserved for tapering off into the sunset of a presidency. Instead, it seems he’s revving up for another term of, in his words, “winning, winning, winning.”
One can almost picture the collective moan from the Democrats at the thought of Trump achieving this legislative victory so swiftly. With the House and Senate behind him, the President managed to pass this robust piece of legislation just as planned, right on his preferred deadline of Independence Day. Yes, the irony is rich—while the nation celebrates freedom, Trump, with remarkable skill and seemingly endless energy, consolidates his agenda, leaving many scratching their heads and others fuming behind their desks.
It’s hard not to chuckle at the irony some Democrats are trying to spin as a grim consequence of the new law. They paint a picture of doom, with seniors, veterans, and the less fortunate supposedly left out in the cold. Their outcry is almost theatrical at this point. While they predict widespread chaos, a la Chicken Little, the reality many Republicans are focusing on is quite the opposite. The bill includes substantial funding—$50 billion to be precise—to ensure rural hospitals remain unaffected during what is marked as a transition period. They probably missed that in their rush to condemn.
Noteworthy is the fact that the new bill’s critics, rather than offering constructive dialogue, prefer to sling mud. Apparently, the Trump-obstructers are predicting the bill will impact 16 to 17 million Americans negatively, and they bemoan an alleged threat to food assistance for children. As expected, these predictions come hot off the press with the usual limelight-grabbing rhetoric that’ll be echoed in campaign speeches and media appearances. Yet, the truth is the bill promises economic freedom without raising taxes and offers a long runway for voters to experience its benefits firsthand.
Now, is it all roses and confetti for everyone? Perhaps not. There certainly seems to be lingering concerns, even among some Republicans, about the timing of some of the bill’s provisions. The sweeter parts might blossom before the midterms, leaving the less pleasant cuts for after. But hey, politics is all about strategy, right? For now, Trump and the Republicans have pulled off what many thought unlikely, leaving them with a ripe opportunity to sell this achievement to the American people. Voters will have ample time to see for themselves, contrary to the Democrats’ dramatic narratives. Embrace this encore of accountability, folks; the long game is just getting started.
