On Thanksgiving Day, U.S. bases and troops in Iraq and Syria were targeted by mortars and armed drones in cowardly and despicable attacks. The forces were attacked four times in Iraq and Syria, demonstrating a blatant disregard for peace and stability in the region. But despite the brazen aggression, there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure, thanks to the vigilance and preparedness of our brave men and women in uniform.

In Iraq, the Ain al-Asad air base and the Harir base near Erbil Airport faced the brunt of the attacks. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an Iran-backed militia, shamelessly claimed responsibility for these reprehensible acts. The group boasted about launching suicide drones at the bases and even alleged that their militia forces stormed the base with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms. These terrorists have proven time and time again that they have no respect for the sanctity of life or the rule of law.
Reports also indicated that there was alleged video footage of the attacks, but the authenticity of the footage has yet to be confirmed. This underscores the need for vigilance and unwavering support for our troops in the face of relentless hostility and provocation.
Notably, the recent attacks add to the alarming tally of 66 attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria since October 17, with at least 62 injuries resulting from these violent acts. The unrelenting series of attacks is a stark reminder of the dangers that our troops face in the region, as they work tirelessly to safeguard American interests and promote peace and stability.
Retired Special Forces Chief Warrant Officer 3 Joe Kent, who is running for Congress in Washington state, aptly noted the dire situation, slamming the failed policies and corruption that have emboldened our adversaries and endangered our troops. It’s time to hold those responsible for leading us into this quagmire accountable and to support leaders who prioritize the safety and security of our military personnel.
As the threats against our forces persist, it is crucial to stand in solidarity with our troops and demand the swift and decisive action needed to confront these aggressors. The safety and well-being of our military personnel should always be a top priority, and it is imperative to support leaders who will take a strong stance against those who seek to harm our brave men and women in uniform.
