He firmly rejected claims of layoffs affecting the Veterans Crisis Line responders, highlighting his focus on maintaining essential services for those in need.
The secretary’s approach includes expanding access to private-sector health care for veterans while maintaining oversight of VA facilities. This hybrid model aims to reduce wait times and improve convenience for veterans seeking medical appointments. Collins has also prioritized addressing veteran homelessness and suicide prevention, expressing frustration over past administrations’ lack of measurable progress despite significant spending.
