The socialist darling of the Democratic Party, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has officially announced that she will not be challenging Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for her New York seat in 2024. This news comes as a shock to many, who were hoping that Ocasio-Cortez would throw her hat into the ring for a primary challenge against the establishment Democrat.

Although many on the far-left were excited about the possibility of an AOC Senate run, it seems that the congresswoman has had a change of heart. According to her spokesperson, she is “not planning” on running for Senate or primarying Gillibrand. This announcement will undoubtedly come as a disappointment to those who were looking forward to having an unapologetic socialist in the Senate.
It’s no secret that Ocasio-Cortez has ambitions beyond her seat in Congress. In fact, she has stated that she is considering a run for “higher office” in the future. While this announcement may have dashed the hopes of her supporters, it’s clear that AOC has her sights set on something bigger.
If Ocasio-Cortez had decided to challenge Gillibrand, it could have had serious consequences for the Democratic Party.
