With President Joe Biden’s term winding down, one thing is crystal clear: his administration is working hard to secure a legacy that can only be described as disastrous. A recent blunder in foreign policy has put Biden on a collision course with reality, empowering Iran to bolster its funding for terrorism, as highlighted by the Washington Free Beacon.
Just days after the presidential election, the Biden administration demonstrated remarkable timing—or questionable judgment—by waiving sanctions on Iran. This move unlocked access to around $10 billion in funds that had been frozen due to previous sanctions. These funds primarily represent payments for electricity imports that the U.S. had effectively put on lockdown. As members of the diplomatic community would say, this is the kind of foreign policy that makes one scratch their head and wonder if anyone is home in the White House.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken came out with the ridiculous claim that this decision serves America’s national security interests. Past experiences suggest a different narrative, particularly when it comes to the history of sanctions waivers. A notable example occurred just a month after Hamas attacks Israel; yet, it appears this administration is either blissfully ignorant of the repercussions or is deliberately ignoring them for political gain.
While Donald Trump’s administration had previously used similar waivers, they were structured with tighter restrictions to limit Iranian access to cash. Biden’s version is shockingly lenient, allowing Iran to convert its funds from Iraqi dinars to Euros. This little loophole could enable Iran to operate in a much larger financial playground, likely causing headaches for any neighbor trying to feel secure.
In a laughable attempt to cover themselves, members of the Biden administration stated that the funds would only be used for “humanitarian” purposes—such as medicine and other necessities. What’s next? Are Iranians using humanitarian funds to supply their missile programs? The administration’s reasoning to create “a stable, sovereign, and secure Iraq” to diminish Iran’s influence has a touch of wishful thinking, underscoring a serious gap in reality.
The timing of these moves cannot be casually brushed aside. It appears that Biden is not only unwilling to acknowledge Trump’s presence but is resolutely determined to undermine him at every turn. The clear question to ask here isn’t whether Biden’s actions bolster national security but rather how many more problems he can drop into Trump’s lap before the former president takes office again. If this is how the current administration plans to wrap up its term, one has to wonder who is really steering the ship and if they even have a map to begin with.
