President Biden’s recent teleprompter mishap provided a comedic moment that was too good to resist. At the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Summit, Biden found himself staring blankly at his teleprompter for over ten seconds, contemplating whether or not to attempt pronouncing something his speechwriters had written for him. Eventually, he gave up, muttering inaudibly, “I’m not gonna even try.”
In an attempt to relieve the awkward tension, the APEC audience laughed. Biden then tried to salvage the situation by saying, “It’s better not to try and not mispronounce than try and mispronounce,” sounding like Yogi Berra in an AFLAC commercial. It was as if Biden stumbled upon an unexpected punchline, unintentionally delivering light-hearted laughter.
Before giving up, Biden hinted at his willingness to give the pronunciation a shot, saying, “Leading j — leading tech companies … like Anthropic … and — I’m gonna mispronounce.” But alas, he abandoned the idea, leaving the crowd both amused and bemused.

Of course, one can’t help but marvel at the way some journalists attempt to polish Biden’s missteps. NBC’s Scott Budman treated Biden as a serious and capable individual, twisting the narrative. But let’s be real; Biden didn’t actually say he would mispronounce “Anthropic.” He barely muttered the word, unsure of it, before deciding to shut down his teleprompter adventure. It’s unclear if Budman made an honest mistake or if he has simply developed a habit of downplaying the president’s evident limitations.
Unfortunately for Biden, his steadily declining poll numbers suggest that more and more people are starting to notice his deficiencies. The façade of competence can only last for so long before reality sets in. Perhaps it’s time for Budman and others to face the truth and acknowledge Biden’s cognitive decline.
Yet, despite the occasional pang of guilt one may feel when mocking an elderly man with obvious mental decline, it quickly fades when one remembers the way Biden has enriched himself and his family through public resources. Let’s not forget the lengths he went to malign former President Donald Trump and his supporters. It’s hard to sympathize with someone so detestable.
Although the teleprompter incident provided some entertainment value, one can’t help but wonder what would have happened if Biden had actually attempted to pronounce whatever came next. The potential for fresh memes or even material for a Trump campaign commercial would have been endless. But alas, we were left with just a momentary lapse and mumbled words instead. Oh, what a missed opportunity.
