White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre dodged questions on Monday about whether President Joe Biden would meet with singer Stevie Wonder to discuss “the black agenda” for the new year. The Grio’s April Ryan pushed Jean-Pierre on the issue, emphasizing Wonder’s worries about the black agenda being “left behind.”

Ryan pointed out that Biden had not fulfilled his promise to pass new voting rights laws and mentioned the Supreme Court’s decision to outlaw affirmative action in college admissions. She reminded everyone that Wonder had met with former President Ronald Reagan and played a pivotal role in establishing Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a holiday.
In response, Jean-Pierre claimed that Biden takes the concerns raised by Ryan and Wonder “very, very seriously.” She refused to reveal any potential meeting between Biden and Wonder but stressed that Biden has been deeply focused on addressing racial inequality since his first day in office.
