In a big ol’ turn of events out in Colorado, Rep. Ken Buck, a real Freedom Caucus big shot, is calling it quits early and making all kinds of ruckus. The news is spreading like wildfire that there’s going to be a special congressional election for the first time in over 40 years in his Colorado neck of the woods. And boy, oh boy, is it ruffling some feathers!
Now, here’s the scoop. Buck’s early retirement has got all the Colorado GOP candidates scratching their heads and deciding if they want to jump on the bandwagon and run for the rest of his term. You see, Gov. Jared Polis, who’s from the other side of the political aisle, has set the date for this special election to be held on June 25. That’s the same day as the 2024 primary election for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which is as red as a shiny apple.

Now, before all this hubbub, a bunch of Republican candidates had thrown their hats into the ring to replace Buck in the next regular election. One of them was Rep. Lauren Boebert, who was thinking of switching it up and running for Buck’s seat in the 4th District instead of her own. But now that Buck’s packing his bags early, things are getting real interesting.
Yessiree, in a special election, only one candidate from each party can run. But get this: candidates who were already in the mix for the regular election can also toss their names in the hat for the special election without giving up their spot in the regular election. It’s like getting a two-for-one deal at the county fair!

Richard Holtorf and some other folks are vying for the Republican nomination in this special election.
