In a display of true Republican spunk, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) decided to speak his mind on President Joe Biden’s extravagant foreign aid package. This colossal $100 billion extravaganza not only includes assistance for Israel and Ukraine but even Taiwan and other places. But Mr. Hawley, being the level-headed conservative that he is, believes that Israel should be treated with a bit more urgency. In fact, he supports a standalone bill just for them. Why complicate things, right?
According to the Senator, there’s no need to hold up aid to Israel just so President Biden can check off all the items on his foreign aid shopping list. “Let’s get that done,” he said. And he’s got a point. Why get caught up in the minutiae of Ukraine, Taiwan, and, heaven forbid, Gaza? Nope, Israel deserves its own spotlight, and the rest can wait their turn.

Mr. Hawley’s candid remarks go against the grain of the current administration’s foreign policy priorities, but that’s what makes him a breath of fresh air in the stuffy halls of Washington. While others may toe the party line, he’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind, even if it ruffles a few feathers. And honestly, who doesn’t love a little bit of controversy in politics? It keeps things interesting.
