In a strange turn of events, the mayor of South Fulton, Georgia, Khalid Kamau, was detained and charged with first-degree burglary and criminal trespass after entering a residence he claimed he believed to be abandoned. The mayor was booked into the Fulton County Jail and released the same day after securing a surety of $11,000. It all began when a householder called the authorities to report a person on the property of his lake house. When the proprietor arrived at the scene, he discovered Mayor Kamau inside his residence and ordered him to stay put. The mayor then verbally assaulted the householder, bragging about his position as mayor and threatening to wait until the authorities arrived. Not the wisest decision, Mr. Mayor.

When the police eventually arrived, Kamau attempted to explain himself by stating that he was on his way to the dog park when he decided to stop by the house, which he claimed was his ideal home and he wanted to purchase. Then why was he charged with burglary if the property was in fact vacant? Some curious minds desire to know. There may be more to this story than initially meets the eye.
Kamau commended the police for their treatment throughout the day after posting bail and exiting jail. In contrast, the city of South Fulton issued a statement affirming its commitment to upholding the law and treating all individuals equally. The city's mayor being charged with criminal trespass and first-degree burglary is quite humiliating. One can only image how uneasy this must make city officials feel.
And let's not neglect to mention the fascinating biography of Mayor Kamau. According to the South Fulton website, he identifies as a "Christian Socialist" and claims to be the first #BlackLivesMatter organizer to be elected to public office in the United States. It's debatable whether this has any bearing on the allegations he's facing, but it certainly adds an intriguing dimension to the narrative.
