Google Faces Backlash for Censoring Assassination Attempt on Trump

Google has once again found itself in hot water for an apparent case of censorship that feels right out of a dystopian novel. The tech giant’s autocomplete feature has sparked outrage, particularly among conservatives, for failing to recognize the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Instead of showing the phrase “assassination attempt on Trump,” the search engine recommended “assassination attempt on Truman.” Because, you know, everyone is just dying to learn more about Harry S. Truman in the context of assassination attempts.

In a display of digital sleuthing, Libs Of TikTok exposed this glaring oversight, frustratingly noting that other autocomplete suggestions included vague phrases about Trump’s case and administration rather than the urgent matter of a physical attack on the 2024 Republican presidential nominee. This prompted calls for accountability, with demands for Google to appear before Congress and answer for this glaring attempt at information manipulation. Orwell, where are you when we need you?

Republican Senator Roger Marshall from Kansas didn’t take kindly to Google’s apparent selective memory, promising to launch an official inquiry into the matter. He questioned whether there had been a sudden influx of Truman biographers, pointing out the absurdity of the situation. It appears that when it comes to demonizing Trump and protecting their narrative, Google has certainly mastered the art of distraction.

Expectations are high for a response from the tech titan, as the Senator seems poised to shine a spotlight on this unsavory business.
Adding to the chorus of condemnation, Texas Representative Chip Roy also shared his own screenshots, confirming the scarcity of Trump-related suggestions in the autocomplete feature. It seems that verification among Republican lawmakers is the order of the day, as Google fumbles around in the dark trying to explain its bizarre search trends. The apparent goal appears to be clear: to bury the truth and stoke frustration among those seeking answers.

Donald Trump Jr. joined the fray, asserting that this isn’t just a glitch but a deliberate tactic to meddle in the elections. If interference in elections were an Olympic sport, Big Tech would probably take home the gold. The claim that Google is facilitating a political narrative in favor of the Democrats has angered many who see this as a blatant violation of free expression and a direct attack on a leading Republican figure. While the tech giant coughed up a typical corporate response, claiming that no nefarious action had been taken, their history suggests otherwise.

To add insult to injury, it’s worth remembering that Trump was targeted in July, grazed by a bullet at a campaign rally. Yet here we are, with Google attempting to twist the narrative and distract from a serious attempt on his life. As the GOP continues to demand accountability, the burning question remains: just how deep does this rabbit hole of tech censorship go?
