The House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, along with Republican Senators Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham, are investigating President Joe Biden’s actions to weaken the Supreme Court. This move is seen as another instance of the Biden Administration’s use of federal authority to advance a progressive agenda that is considered extreme by some.

The former co-chairs, Robert Bauer and Cristina Rodriguez, of the Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States, have received letters requesting information about Biden’s disbanded panel. The panel was aimed at shifting the balance of power in favor of the left, which indicates that Biden is trying to leverage the Supreme Court to promote his political objectives.
In December of 2021, the Commission submitted its final report of almost 300 pages to President Biden. Although the report did not explicitly endorse “court-packing,” some members of the Commission, including Professor Caroline Frederickson, persisted in publicly advocating for it. This action is deeply concerning as it represents an effort to manipulate the Supreme Court and undermines the principles of our democratic system.
The Commission’s activities and final report occurred during a period of unparalleled and constant assaults on the Supreme Court and its autonomy. In June of 2022, an individual appeared at Justice Kavanaugh’s home armed with a handgun,a hammer, a tactical knife, pepper spray, zip ties, , and other equipment to “remove some people from the Supreme Court” and prevent the overturning of Roe v. Wade. According to reports, the individual intended to target as many as three justices, believing that “if there are more liberal judges than conservative judges, they will have the power.” This episode illustrates the perilous and imprudent nature of Biden’s attempts to manipulate the Supreme Court.
Bauer and Rodriguez have been requested to provide a range of records, which includes any communications with Attorney General Merrick Garland and other officials at the Department of Justice concerning the Commission. This measure is critical in making President Biden answerable for his efforts to weaken the Supreme Court. It is imperative to safeguard our democracy and guarantee that the Supreme Court maintains its impartiality and independence.
