The Senate Republicans are gearing up for another shot at unseating Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and this time they’re placing their bets on businessman Eric Hovde. Despite two previous failed attempts, the GOP is feeling pretty good about their chances, all thanks to Hovde’s expected entry into the race next month. Insiders say the Republicans are especially jazzed about Hovde because of the big bucks he’s willing to throw into his campaign – some are even whispering that he could drop a whopping $20 million.

Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), head honcho over at the National Republican Senatorial Committee, is all hyped up about Hovde, calling him a “great candidate” and cheering on his apparent readiness for the battle. Daines is so amped that he’s painting a picture of Wisconsin as the ultimate showdown state for the Senate race, comparing it to a Wild West duel. Load up them campaign funds, folks, ’cause it’s gonna be a real humdinger!
But hold on to your hats, folks, ’cause Hovde’s political views are harder to pin down than a greased pig at the county fair. Okey dokey, so his last go at the Senate in 2012 didn’t go so well, but he did have plenty to say about his opponent, Sen. Baldwin. In a real head-scratcher of an interview with the Hill, Hovde didn’t hold back, claiming that Baldwin’s philosophy is basically a mixed bag of scary – Marxism, communism, socialism, and extreme liberalism. Yikes! In contrast, he proudly labels himself as a champion of free-market conservatism. That’s like saying his political ideology is a big, juicy steak, while Baldwin’s is a wilted salad. Pass the A1 sauce, please!
Just when the chatter about Hovde’s Senate run started heating up, the Democrats went on the attack, saying all sorts of mean things about him. But Hovde, cool as a cucumber, shrugged off the insults like a pro, calling the mudslinging “silly and stupid.” He wasn’t even officially in the race yet, and already the lefties were huffing and puffing like the Big Bad Wolf! Looks like Hovde’s got ’em rattled, folks. Get ready for a showdown at high noon!
