Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch certainly knows how to keep things interesting, especially when President Joe Biden decides to toy with the Constitution, as if it were nothing more than a plaything. Biden’s checklist includes an 18-year term limit for justices, enforceable ethics rules that sound more like a bureaucratic nightmare, and a constitutional amendment designed to roll back the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on presidential immunity. It’s all very progressive but perhaps not in the best interest of the judicial system as a whole. After all, one might wonder if Biden should really be messing with a system that has served as one of the cornerstones of American democracy.
During an interview with Fox, Gorsuch was alluding to the potential fallout from these proposals without getting too deep into the nitty-gritty political mud that typically engulfs a presidential election year. He managed to keep his poker face, rightfully choosing not to get dragged into a partisan debate. However, the message was clear: the Supreme Court isn’t a playground for the executive branch to exercise its whims. His coyness only adds to the suspense, leaving one to wonder just how far Biden is willing to go to upend decades of judicial precedent.
As for Gorsuch’s upcoming book, *Over Ruled: The Human Toll of Too Much Law*, it seems to be a reflection on the ramifications of overly complicated legal systems. What appears to be the crux of his argument is that regular Americans are often caught in the crossfire of excessive laws and regulations that seem to pop up overnight. If Gorsuch’s insights are any indication, perhaps Biden’s proposals would do nothing but further complicate matters for everyday citizens just trying to get by.
At the end of the day, leaders like Biden need to recognize that the law is not merely a tool to be wielded for political gain. There’s a reason the checks and balances exist, and disregarding them can lead to disaster. Gorsuch’s cautionary alert to the President serves as a reminder that while change may be inevitable, it should also be approached with caution, respect, and a keen awareness of the implications for the American people.
