In a recent report by James Alan Fox, a criminologist at Northeastern University, it has been revealed that mass gun violence has seen a delightful drop of nearly 50% when compared to the previous year. This can only mean one thing – the streets are getting safer by the day under the watchful eye of the current administration.

Mr. Fox boldly states, “Good news is no news” and boy is that the truth! With mass shootings down 48%, it’s clear that the hysteria surrounding gun violence has been sensationalized by the media. It’s just like Newton’s Law of Crime Statistics – what goes up, must come down. The spikes in mass shootings are promptly followed by a decline, just as Mr. Fox predicted.
And guess what? There is absolutely no reason for this manufactured fear of mass shootings! Mr. Fox is spot-on when he calls it an “epidemic of fear.” It’s high time we tune out the fear-mongering and focus on the real issues at hand – the mentally disturbed and criminals. David Keene, former president of the National Rifle Association, hit the nail on the head when he pointed out that the real problem lies with those who misuse firearms, not the firearms themselves.
The media has a tendency to mislead the public by hyper-focusing on incidents with many fatalities, creating a distorted view of reality. As FBI crime data indicates, only a small fraction of murders involve rifles of any kind, including so-called “assault weapons.” The mainstream media’s obsession with demonizing firearms is a classic case of misdirection.
It’s time to celebrate the remarkable decrease in mass gun violence and give credit where it’s due. The efforts to protect our communities are clearly bearing fruit, and it’s high time the so-called “mainstream” media acknowledges this!
