In a stroke of political theatricality, Vice President Kamala Harris has been catapulted to the forefront of the Democratic fray following President Biden’s abrupt withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. While mainstream media has heralded her as the youthful, vibrant face of the party, one must wonder if this charm offensive is not more akin to smoke and mirrors than substance.
The media’s collective sigh of relief can be heard from coast to coast as they polish Harris’s image, thanks to a handful of social media memes and an enthusiastic endorsement from a British pop star. Apparently, in the world of the left, celebrity thumbs-ups and catchy online graphics equate to political qualifications. Has the left really moved that far from rational thought? It’s an excellent question to ponder as they rally around their hip new figurehead without a second thought—although perhaps they should think a little harder, as it appears that not everybody is biting.

Harry Enten, a data-savvy personality from CNN, threw a sizable bucket of ice water on this narrative of newfound momentum. He noted that while Harris may be adored in meme culture, she fails to resonate with younger voters—a core demographic the Democrats seemingly rely on. It turns out that the “vibrant” new face of the Democratic ticket isn’t doing as well with those fresh-faced voters as they had hoped. Harris’s numbers show that she trails Biden, and it’s not just a blip on the radar; it’s a significant disparity.
To make matters worse, Enten pointed out that young Democrats aren’t feeling an extra jolt in their motivation to vote due to Biden’s departure. It raises the relativity of Harris’s “momentum” even further—if young voters are lukewarm on her prospects, can she really be considered anything more than a placeholder in a failing party?
Despite her supposed rising star status, the facts remain stubbornly clear. Even general polling indicates that former President Trump is striding ahead of Harris, garnering approximately 1.7 points advantage in national projections—far from a position of weakness. The ground game of elections, particularly in November, still has several months left to evolve; however, beware of the hype that surrounds Harris’s latest media makeover.
Senator Ted Cruz believes there’s a real threat in Harris that Biden never posed, a notable warning that shouldn’t be dismissed in light of renewed optimism of the left. With radical agendas and a deeply polarized electorate, the danger lies not just in who Harris is but also in the left’s relentless quest for power. Taking the bait of media-fueled enthusiasm could be a fatal miscalculation for those who think the fight is over before it even begins.
