In a bold and defiant move, the Houthi rebels fired an anti-ship cruise missile at the USS Laboon, a U.S. guided missile destroyer. Thankfully, the U.S. fighter aircraft were able to intercept and shoot down the missile before it could cause any harm. It’s a relief to know that our military is always ready to defend against these threats.
This attack comes on the heels of President Biden’s decision to launch strikes against the Houthis just a few days earlier. It’s clear that the Houthis are determined to continue their aggression, despite the consequences. But let’s not forget who’s funding and supporting these terrorists – Iran. This just goes to show the dangerous influence Iran has in the region.
The United States and our allies will not stand idly by while our personnel and commercial vessels are attacked. President Biden made it clear that there will be further measures taken to protect our people and ensure the free flow of international commerce. And Defense Secretary Austin’s message to the Houthis is loud and clear – if they don’t stop attacking ships, they will face even more consequences.

It’s concerning to see the Houthis vow retaliation after these strikes. It’s clear that they have no regard for the safety and security of others. Their attacks on ships crossing the Red Sea are not justified, regardless of their claims of retaliation. We must continue to stand strong against these terrorists and their Iranian backers.
It’s a troubling world we live in when our warships are targeted by terrorist groups. Thankfully, our military is equipped to defend against these attacks. We must remain vigilant and continue to support our military as they work to keep us safe from these threats.
