Is Biden Searching For a New VP?

The Democratic Party is in a state of disarray as they anxiously await President Joe Biden’s decision to run for reelection in 2024. With Biden’s age, gaffes, and strange gait causing many to question his fitness for office, the party is in a state of limbo. Now, The New York Times has published an opinion piece from former White House Counsel Greg Craig that suggests Vice President Kamala Harris may be to blame for some of the Democrats’ worries.

In his article entitled “President Biden’s Succession Problem,” Craig urges Democrats to exhibit greater respect towards President Biden. However, he also acknowledges that concerns about the President’s age and physical state are unlikely to disappear, and voters have the right to demand reassurances that the White House will remain in capable hands. To address this, Craig proposes that Biden take a cue from Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944 and allow the delegates at the Democratic National Convention to select his running mate. This approach, Craig argues, would add excitement and intrigue to an otherwise mundane and possibly draining process while also affording the Democratic Party the opportunity to assess potential future candidates.

Despite Craig’s proposal to leave the selection of the Vice Presidential candidate to Democratic voters, his idea overlooks the fact that Kamala Harris did not fulfill the requirements he stated were necessary for a successful candidate. Harris faced financial difficulties during her campaign, and her laugh was criticized rather than endearing. Additionally, she withdrew from the race before the Iowa caucuses, indicating that she may not be a strong candidate. Considering her track record as Vice President, which includes high staff turnover and a lack of significant policy achievements, it is improbable that she would perform better if given a few more years in the role.

It is clear that Democrats are desperate for a solution to their Biden problem. But instead of looking for ways to make Biden more palatable to voters, they should be focusing on finding a candidate who can actually lead the party and win in 2024. The suggestion that Harris should be Biden’s running mate is nothing more than a desperate attempt to distract from Biden’s lack of leadership and his inability to make a decision about his own future.

The Democratic Party needs to stop relying on Biden and start looking for a candidate who can actually lead them to victory in 2024. It is time for them to stop grasping at straws and start looking for real solutions. The suggestion that Harris should be Biden’s running mate is nothing more than a politically motivated distraction from the real issues facing the party. It is time for Democrats to put their faith in a candidate who can actually win and lead the country forward.
