Chicago has turned into a circus this week, showcasing demonstrations led by far-left and anti-Israel protestors who seem all too invested in ruining a perfectly good political gathering. While the Democratic National Convention was unfolding, Vice President Kamala Harris decided to make a hasty exit to Milwaukee, presumably to dodge the embarrassing sight of chaos.
Instead of facing the ruckus, Harris opted to promote her economic agenda in Wisconsin’s largest city. It’s a scheme that includes an eyebrow-raising $1.7 trillion spending plan and a proposal that many would equate to government control of grocery prices. Who doesn’t want Uncle Sam dictating how much they pay for avocados and bread, right? During her appearance at the Fiserv Forum—now famously known as the venue where Donald Trump rallied Republicans just last month—Harris was accompanied by none other than Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz, a man whose political resume now includes an impressive ability to ignore riots.

In contrast, Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance chose to uphold the spirit of Kenosha, which, as everyone knows by now, was ground zero for the 2020 riots that left the city in shambles. Vance spoke in Kenosha while Harris was posturing for Democrats, and the local Republican leaders ensured he didn’t forget the struggles of their community. Sandy Wiedmeyer, the GOP chair in Kenosha County, reminded the world that in a time when Democrats are busy flexing their virtue signaling muscles, the Republican Party remembers the devastation that unfolded that summer.
Walz’s handling of the riots is becoming more notorious than Wisconsin cheese. His response—or the lack thereof—has found its way into conversations, with more people asking if he even noticed something was amiss back in 2020 while the city burned. As if to add insult to injury, his wife’s bizarre remarks about how she “savored the smell” of burning tires during that tumultuous time have become fodder for critiques. What a lovely family tradition: keeping windows open to invite the aroma of chaos inside.
In a world where Democrats hold extravagant festivals disguised as conventions amidst protests and upheaval, Republicans are seizing the opportunity to remind voters about the realities they are facing. The stark contrast couldn’t be clearer. Vance and other GOP figures are ensuring Kenosha residents know they understand the chaos all too well and stand firm against it. Meanwhile, Harris, Walz, and their allies seem more interested in their lofty spending agendas than addressing the very real concerns of the communities they claim to represent.
