Lori E. Frugoli, the leftist Marin County District Attorney, has announced that charges against the vandals who destroyed a Catholic statue have been reduced. The criminals allegedly destroyed the statue of Saint Junipero Serra at a Catholic church in San Rafael, California, during a protest for “Indigenous People’s Day” on October 12, 2020. Nevertheless, Frugoli can add “restorative justice solution” to her repertoire of catchphrases.
The charges for the protestors, who allegedly toppled the statue, were reduced from felonies to misdemeanors through this “innovative” methodology. Radical leftists see vandalizing statues as a way to advance their agenda and impose their anti-American and anti-Christian view on everyone else, hence why Frugoli thinks this is “justice being served.”
Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone was quick to offer his thoughts. He said that he’s “disturbed but not surprised” about the reduction of these charges. Archbishop Cordileone also wondered who gave the order for the San Rafael Police Department officers not to do their sworn duty and stop the protestors from destroying the statue.
The Catholic faith is no stranger to attacks and animosity in this country. However, the lack of consequences for the destruction of Catholic property seems unfair and hypocritical. Anti-Catholicism runs deep in our country’s history, and yet this decision has allowed attackers to continue their aggression against Catholic houses of worship without facing any consequences.

As of May 2020, there have been over 255 attacks recorded by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops against Catholic churches across the country. The failure to take critical action against these crimes makes it look like leftist elites and their organizations approve of such violent behavior.
As if that wasn’t enough, the left goes after the statues of historical figures like Saint Junipero Serra, despite Pope Francis naming him a saint in 2015. The left’s objective is to erase any evidence of America’s Christian roots and traditions while stirring up calls for reparations or other guilt-based schemes to redistribute the wealth.
It’s clear that the left’s double standards are showing. Anyone who vandalizes statues of historical figures who don’t fit the leftist narrative would be promptly charged with hate crimes. Sadly, for the Catholic community, this kind of justice does not seem to apply.
